The Leadership Training Seminar was a success with three student delegates from Philippine Christian University. Our very own, all time facilitator---Liezl aka "T" was the facilitator from Friday to Saturday. She was then joined by fellow alumnus--XY, Ronald, Rosalie, Sarah, Anna,
Lalaine, Nilo and Mhay.

Before the end of 2007, Metanoia will also reach out to the poor kids along Roxas Blvd. on the 16th of December. Alumni volunteers and new student members will arrive at 4:00pm along Roxas Blvd. to distribute can goods and other gifts for the street children.

Metanoia has been quite inactive in Philippine Christian University because of the changes in student body and lack of support within the university. But behind that, there are committed alumni members who are still in support and has kept the spirit of camaraderie in their hearts despite the distance that kept them apart.

Metanoia alumni members consists of former students from Philippine Christian University who are now employees in Philippines, business owners, networkers, OFWs, US residents, SAHMs (stay-at-home-moms), religious leaders, singers, and artists.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8179686.post-71306868666579880332007-08-24T00:29:00.001+08:002010-09-24T03:39:37.381+08:007 Principles of an Eagle

by Author Dr. Myles Monroe

1. No other bird goes to the height of the eagle. Eagles fly with eagles. Never in a flock. Even when Moses (Old Testament Bible) went to commune with God on the mountain, he left the crowd at the foothills. Stay away from sparrows and ravens. Eagles fly with eagles.

2. Eagles have strong vision, which focuses up to 5 kilometers from the air.

When an eagle sites prey- even a rodent from this distance, he narrows his focus on it and sets out to get it. No matter the obstacle, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it.
3. Eagles do not eat dead things.

They feed on fresh prey. Vultures eat dead animals but not eagles. Steer clear of outdated and old information. Do your research well always.

4. The Eagle is the only bird that loves the storm.

When clouds gather, the eagles get excited. The eagle uses the wings of the storm to rise and is pushed up higher. Once it finds the wing of the storm, the eagle stops flapping and uses the pressure of the raging storm to soar the clouds and glide. This gives the eagle an opportunity to rest its wings. In the meantime all the other birds hide in the leaves and branches of the trees. We can use the storms of our lives (obstacles, trouble, etc) to rise to greater heights. Achievers relish challenges and use them profitably.

5. The Eagle tests before it trusts.

When a female eagle meets a male and they want to mate, she flies down to earth with the male pursing her and she picks a twig. She flies back into the air with the male pursuing her.

Once she has reached a height high enough for her, she lets the twig fall to the ground and watches it as it falls. The male chases after the twig. The faster it falls, the faster he chases until he reaches it and has to catch it before it falls to the ground, then bring it back to the female eagle. The female eagle grabs the twig and flies to a much higher altitude pursued by the male until she perceives it high enough, and then drops the twig for the male to chase. This goes on for hours, with the height increasing until the female eagle is assured that the male eagle has mastered the art of picking the twig which shows commitment, then and only then, will she allow him to mate with her! Whether in private life or in business, one should test commitment of people intended for partnership.

6. Eagles prepare for training.

When about to lay eggs, the female and male eagle identify a place very high on a cliff where no predators can reach; the male flies to earth and picks thorns and lays them on the crevice of the cliff, then flies to earth again to collect twigs which he lays in the intended nest. He flies back to earth picks thorns and lays them on top of the twigs. He flies back to earth and picks soft grass to cover the thorns, and then flies back to pick rugs to put on the grass. When this first layering is complete the male eagle runs back to earth and picks more thorns, lays them on the nest; runs back to get grass and rugs and lays them on top of the thorns, then plucks his feathers to complete the nest. The thorns on the outside of the nest protect it from possible intruders. Both male and female eagles participate in raising the eagle family. She lays the eggs and protects them; he builds the nest and hunts. During the time of training the young ones to fly, the mother eagle throws the eaglets out of the nest and because they are scared, they jump into the nest again.

Next, she throws them out and then takes off the soft layers of the nest, leaving the thorns bare. When the scared eaglets jump into the nest again, they are pricked by thorns. Shrieking and bleeding they jump out again this time wondering why the mother and father who love them so much are torturing them. Next, mother eagle pushes them off the cliff into the air.

As they shriek in fear, father eagle flies out and picks them up on his back before they fall, and brings them back to the cliff. This goes on for sometime until they start flapping their wings. They get excited at this newfound knowledge that they can fly and not fall at such a fast rate.

The father and mother eagle supports them with their wings.

The preparation of the nest teaches us to prepare for changes;

The preparation for the family teaches us that active participation of both partners leads to success;

The being pricked by the thorns tells us that sometimes being too comfortable where we are may result into our not experiencing life, not progressing and not learning at all. The thorns of life come to teach us that we need to grow, get out of the nest and love on. We may not know it but the seemingly comfortable and safe haven may have thorns;

The people who love us do not let us languish in sloth but push us hard to grow and prosper. Even in their seemingly bad actions they have good intentions for us.

7. Eagles rejuvenate.

When the Eagle grows old, his feathers become weak and cannot take him as fast as he should. When he feels weak and about to die, he retires to a place far away in the rocks. While there, he plucks out every feather on his body until he is completely bare. He stays in this hiding place until he has grown new feathers, then he can come out. We occasionally need to shed off old habits & items that burden us without adding to our lives…

”As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:” -Deuteronomy 32:11

“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise…” Ephesians 5:15
There are a lot of things in life that are good to ignore. We need to ignore the glut of useless information that pummels us. We need to ignore the foul moods of people that would bring us down. We need to ignore advice that comes cheaply. We need to ignore the advertisements that seek to seduce us and manipulate us, creating false needs and wants. So it goes. But we need also not to ignore the lies of the enemy. We need to confront them with God’s truth. We need to confront those who gossip about us, attack us, and run our name through the mud. We need to confront those who despise our faith. Silence, in these cases, means approval. While we need to chose our battles and ask the Holy Spirit to lead us in them, we need to stand up for the truth, for righteousness, even when it is unpopular in our “live and let live” culture.

The question of what to ignore and what to welcome and even confront, sets us up for today’s verse from the Book of Proverbs. Paul exhorts us to live as wise people and one major source of this wisdom lies here.
“He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.” Proverbs 13:18
Discipline is hard for us to accept. This is especially true when it is fear driven. When we are afraid of punishment or rejection, we may follow the discipline, but our hearts fight it. As Paul says in Romans 7 when the discipline of the Law comes, we rebel. It exposes not only our sin, but also our sinful nature. The very command evokes in us the desire to revolt. I remember years ago hearing Hal Lindsay teach at the “Light and Power House” near the campus of UCLA. This was back in the days of the Jesus Movement, before Hal became famous for his book, The Late Great Planet Earth. He was discussing Romans 7 where Paul says that the Law shows how sinful sin really is. He asked us to imagine a house with a big plate glass window. A sign stood in front of it, “Do not Throw Rocks at this Window.” Then Hal asked, how long do you think that the window would go unbroken? The answer, of course, was, “Not long.” If we were walking by, we might never think of breaking the window, until the law against throwing rocks is posted. Then, suddenly, the idea and the temptation to follow are overwhelming and the window is quickly broken. In other words, this kind of discipline this law reveals our rebellion, our sinful nature and we are ready to act out.
But discipline from people who love us, who we respect and who have our best in mind is another matter. Thus the Book of Hebrews exhorts us not to reject the Lord’s discipline in our lives. (Chapter 12) It may be painful for a season, but it is a sign of belonging, because it is the loving father who disciplines his children for their own good. So rather than rebelling against discipline or rejecting it, we need to welcome God’s discipline as a sign of his love. Also, since he is infinitely wise, his discipline is really good for us. It may be painful for a moment, but again, it is a sign of his love and our belonging. The fruit that it bears in our lives is good.
If we fail in welcoming true discipline, our proverb warns, poverty and shame will be the results. The road to staying free in Jesus includes accepting his discipline in our lives. We need the disciplines of prayer, Bible reading, and building honest and transparent community with others. We need the disciplines, as they say in A.A., of working “our program.” Here the 12 Steps can be helpful. They include the disciplines of keeping short accounts, confessing our sins to each other, and making amends to those we have hurt – all of this keeps us humble. We admit that the lack of discipline in our lives has produced bitter fruit – “poverty and shame.” We have spent money foolishly, borrowed with no intention or ability to pay it back. In our shame we have avoided people we have used, cut them off and moved on. But in gaining our sobriety and heeding correction, honor comes. Many times I have attended Recovery meetings where friends have received cakes for a year or even many years of sobriety. It is a celebration; the correction they accepted, the discipline they embraced, brought honor and health. The greatest honor is the “Yes” of the Lord himself, who affirms us and is pleased with us. We have accepted his free grace and embraced those disciplines that have brought structure, accountability and maturity to our lives. Receive the grace and go for the discipline. Humble yourself. The fruit is good and lasting. The honor will come.
Prayer of the day “Lord, help me to welcome your discipline as a sign of your love and my belonging to you. Forgive me for the times I have ignored this. Help me to heed your correction and keep my eyes on the good fruit to come. In your name. Amen.”
Solomon answered God,..."Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people."--God gave Solomon wisdon and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

2 Chronicles 1:7-8, 10; 1 Kings 4:29

WISDOM is the ability to make good decisions based on proper discernment and judgment. KNOWLEDGE in this verse, refers to the practical know-how necessary for handling everyday matters. Solomon used his wisdom and knowledge not only to build the temple from his father's plans, but also to put the nation on firm economic footing.

God's offer to Solomon stretches the imagination: "Ask for whatever you want me to give you" (2 Chron. 1:7). But Solomon put the needs of his people first and asked for wisdom rather than riches. He realized that wisdom would be the most valuable asset he could have as king. Later, he wrote wisdom "is most precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her" (Prov. 3:15). The same wisdom that was given to Solomon is available to us; the same God offers it.
How can we acquire wisdom?
First, we must ask God "who gives generously to all without finding fault" (James 1:5).

Second, we must devote ourselves wholeheartedly to studying and applying God's Word, the source of divine wisdom.

Solomon could have had anything, but he asked for wisdom to rule the nation. Because God approved of the way Solomon ordered his priorities, he gave Solomon wealth, riches, and honor as well. Jesus also spoke about priorities. He said that when we put God first, everything we really need will be given to us as well (Matthew 6:33). This does not guarantee that we will be wealthy & famous like Solomon, but it means that when we put God first, the wisdom He gives will enable us to have richly rewarding lives. When we have a purpose for living & learn to be content with what we have, we will have greater wealth than we could ever accumulate.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8179686.post-6719427446185502172007-04-14T03:34:00.001+08:002010-09-24T03:43:31.932+08:00First Alumni Meeting
Even I wasn't able to be in this meeting, I thought of blogging it.
Last March 25, 2007, Metanoia alumni met at Greenbelt Starbucks to get connected and plan for an upcoming outreach on December. As far as I know, the meeting went well since a lot of alumni came.
Thanks to Liezl and Da for organizing this meeting and hopefully in the future, we'll all be involved in something with a cause.
It comes as a thief to steal away our life's breath, our existence, our loved ones and everything that signifies hope. Death is our enemy because we were meant to be forever in love with life. In the first garden that had sheltered us, protected us, and so delighted us, we were allowed to walk lovingly with the Life-giver, the Lord God who created us, until in our desire to listen to another voice and know more, be more, and have more, we forfeited our right to life.
So Jesus entered a different garden to face this terrible foe. The conflict, as the song says, raged within him, around him, and through him for he had to decide whether or not to die his own singular death. It was all he needed to do to free us and return to us the hope of eternity with the Life-Lover. There were questions we can only imagine. Was death such a price to pay for another? Would there be any value in this sacrifice? Could he show us what lay beyond the final blackness? And then there were the millions of griefs to bare...the sorrow of broken promises, the fragmented humanity, the pitiful fruits of disobedience. True knowledge broke his heart to pieces. Then it was time. Once to face the judgement hall, once to see the scorn, once to feel the hatred of hearts bearing no compassion or shame, Jesus went as a man with a boulder on his back. He did not run or flee; he climbed, he stumbled and he pulled his tortured and bloodied body through the streets and up a hill as those choking in death's grip looked on, unaware of the offering's purpose. And there were more questions.

What good was goodness if the world only trampled it to bits? Why would they kill what brings them to life? Why did they hate love?
Until the third day, the answers were a deafening silence as the onlookers returned to their homes thinking that what they had known of one so different, so special, so wonderful, so human and divine, was only a foolish hope.
And they were almost right, except for the tomb where the miracle began.
It was in the grave that suddenly someone began breathing! Someone began laughing! Someone began moving the stone away! Until finally, someone came forth! And that someone was Jesus, our truest hope! He made Death the path to life and resurrection power. Death became his instrument of victory and with just one piercing look, one straightforward glance, one penetrating stare into the face of the blackest of blacks, He returned to us the Everlasting Life. It was Jesus who played the grandest joke, tricking death with the simplicity of His surrendered life. Since then, His laughter has been heard resounding across the galaxies and the eons of eternity, so that with this new hope, we too can look into the face of Death through Love's eyes and laugh all the way Home.
Of course, that thing that you want to do shouldn't be something that could harm other people or the environment.

This is one of the article i got from Jobstreet site which is worth reading

Take charge of your career

In today's working environment, do you know who is the one person who is qualified enough to make important decisions about your career? It is not your colleagues or supervisors or senior management. It is none of them. The answer, in fact, is: you. You are responsible for your career. It is all up to you to formulate conceive your objectives, develop a plan and follow through with them successfully to realise your career goals.

Think of your career as your own personal company. You are your own boss and as the boss, you will have to make the big decisions yourself. Along the way, you will be tapping on the expertise of people who have the additional knowledge and experience but basically, the ultimate decision is yours alone as your chart your course towards achieving your career goals.

What can you do to achieve them? Here are some guidelines:

Have a target. There is nothing more important that to know the direction where you are heading. To be a successful boss of your career, you will need an overall target. What you want to achieve with your career? How successful do you want to be? What form should this success take? How do you want to measure this success? It is important to have a dream.

Develop a plan. Do not get sidetracked or else you will lose sight of the BIG picture. So, come out with your long-term plan and strategic career goals Write them down big and pin them on the wall. Every few months, set aside some time to review them. Are you still on target? If not, adjust accordingly to meet them.

Make every job count. Learn from every job, and use the lessons learnt to progress in your career. Apply them to the goals you have established. When you have new opportunities, capitalise on the lessons to run a success-driven jobhunting strategy.

Set priorities. Only those who know how to manage their time effectively are able to meet their responsibilities. Managing your career is no different. As you go along, you will be taking on more tasks and responsibilities than you can possible manage. Review them regularly and prioritise them. Do the important ones first; these are the ones that will help you most to achieve your career goals.

Communicate. Talking is not the only aspect of communicating. Listening is, as well as understanding and empathising with the concerns and needs of the people around you. Communication is also not only verbal; it covers the written form too: making yourself understood in writing.

Network. Networking takes time and effort but it plays an important part in your career advancement. Stay networked. Find the time to mix with friends and acquaintances at society meetings, trade shows or other similar activities. A network is a good resource to offer and accept advice and help, not only when you are looking for a job, but in everyday life too.

Be well-informed. In this knowledge-economy, it is important to keep up with ever-changing new developments in your work. The Internet is a powerful source of information, so use it well to seek all the information you need.

Be professional. Conduct yourself professionally. Personal ethics are getting more important. Make yourself trustworthy to others. Reputation counts, and integrity is now central to everything you do and say today.

Get visible. Make your supervisor aware of your hard work and accomplishments. Contribute ideas. Offer suggestions to improve business practices. Willingly stretch your abilities. Grab the opportunities to work outside your job description.

Balance your life well. “All work and no play” makes Jack a dull boy. Balance your work with time and energy for your family, hobbies and leisure pursuits. This is what life is all about.
I thought how are you gonna move forward if you still have to look back from your past, or from where you've been. So i continued listening, instead of texting in the church.

I actually forgot the text verse but the pastor shared the book of Joshua about the time where Moses died and God appointed Joshua to lead the Israelites. Joshua probably felt anxious to receive such responsibility. But God has his promise to Joshua.

The pastor outlined his message in 3 points.
1. Remember God's faithfulness
2. Recall God's mission on you - ask yourself, " What is your mission in life and how can i fulfill it?"
3. Rely on God's promises.

Are you in God's land of promise or in the land of Yourself??? Any thoughts???Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8179686.post-1106647365301945362005-01-25T17:46:00.000+08:002005-01-25T18:02:45.303+08:00Last Christmas...Well, last year...Metanoia are supposed to have a party but unfortunately...the old members wasn't able to see each other. Hahahaa...the members got lost? Not really, there was just misunderstanding with the scheduled time. So the two organizers managed to celebrate the party by themselves with spaghetti and smoked ham....and of course afterwards, Starbucks coffee.
